Global Laboratory Manager

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Global Laboratory Manager, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Managing R&D resources in support of the Global portfolio of Reflective Products for traffic signs, license plates, and vehicle safety.
  • Developing and maintaining a product and technology roadmap in alignment with business priorities
  • Empowering teams to deliver complex cross-functional programs having critical importance to the organization and our customers including creation of new products and technologies, customer applications, product maintenance and cost reductions and product line extensions. Supporting the teams in developing defining and executing product release plans, product backlogs and budgets.
  • Collaborating with global corporate and business group laboratories in support of division priorities.
  • Collaborating with product teams to produce project cost estimates and identifying and securing other project resource needs.
  • Participating in product line Meta Scrum activities including addressing resource constraints and prioritizing product backlog items and next up projects.
  • Efficiently removing impediments to speed project activities.
  • Recommending changes to improve new product commercialization processes and remove systemic impediments and leading the implementation of those improved processes.
  • Identifying, coaching, and developing future R&D leaders.

Location: Maplewood, MN

Travel: May include up to 25% domestic/international

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Your Skills and Expertise 
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Ten (10) years of experience managing research and development or complex new product commercialization projects in a private, public, government or military environment
  • Five (5) years of experience managing an R&D organization

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Master's degree in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited institution
  • Experience managing a Global R&D organization
  • Experience with laboratory operations and management
  • Demonstrated experience with Agile methodologies and their use for new product development
  • Skills include project and resource prioritization, product and technology road mapping, strategic thinking, project management, intellectual property portfolio management, employee development and coaching, strong customer focus
  • Strong communication skills and Technical network
